GermanMalteseCircle.org – New Website

Monday, December 14th, 2015

The German Maltese Circle, or the Deutsch-Maltesischer Zirkel, has been around for 53 years. It is an organisation that bridges the two European countries, primarily through educational and cultural means. Many are the activities that are organised by the Circle, not to mention the many courses and certificates awarded under license by the highly acclaimed Goethe Institut, as well as the various facilities offered within its premises.

This was not the first time that the German Maltese Circle had a website developed. However, the old website was quite dated and to take advantage of the modern programming techniques offered today it was decided that a new website was the way forward.

Several meetings with the administrators provided a clear picture of the needs this new website was intended to address. We discussed the deficiencies of the website and concluded that besides needing a revamp design-wise, one of the main pitfalls of the old site was its organization and the lack of clarity in terms of website sections. Therefore, to this effect, a lot had to be done in order to gain a holistic comprehension of the various facilities and facets that the Circle represents.

These initial meetings led to the design of several website ‘visuals’ in order to establish the ideal look and feel that the client felt confident to proceed with. The current design was selected primarily due to its user-friendly interface, as well as its self-representative colour scheme, denoting the German flag. A Content Management System (CMS) was also implemented in order to allow the administrator freedom in updating sections of the website on a regular basis. Furthermore, a second language option was also included in the website in order to accommodate both German users and other users who prefer to access the site in the German language.

The last stage mainly involved training on the CMS, giving the client the necessary tools to administrate the site himself. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) was also incorporated into the site so it can rank higher in search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. Thus, the new website design and development now promises a fresher and modern look keeping in touch with today’s elevated standards.

Facebook to reduce number of business posts on user timelines

3
Feb

Facebook have announced that they will be reducing the number of posts from Business pages from people’s news feeds. This will be done to increase the quantity of posts by friends while scrolling through the social medium. The reasoning behind this, according to Mark Zuckerberg, is that using social media to interact with people we care about can be beneficial, while “passively reading articles or watching videos… may not be as good.”
